In South Africa we have the #Protection of Personal Protection Information Act, 2013 also known as the #POPIA. As a country, we are currently in the transition and implementation stage. The transitional provisions contained in section 114 of the Act, in effect state that all processing of personal information must within one year from 1 July 2020 conform to the Act. Hence, all entities that process personal data, have to be compliant as from 1 July 2021. Thereafter, penalties come into effect.
About Dr Sebu Tladi
Dr Sebo Tladi holds the following degrees: LLD UNISA (2017); LLM UP 2001; LLB UP 1997; and BIuris Vista University Mamelodi Campus 1995.
Dr Sebo Tladi is a Senior lecturer at the College of law UNISA. She teaches Legal Philosophy, and IT law modules at undergrad and postgrad level. She also taught corporate law and commercial law. She also supervises postgraduate LLM and LLD students on different IT law topics.
Dr Sebo Tladi enjoys research and writing in the IT law space. She has published articles and papers in conference proceedings in the following areas: corporate law and e-commerce (consumer protection; data protection and taxation). She has upcoming chapters in three book projects on IT law/ cyberlaw. Dr Sebo Tladi presented conference papers both nationally and internationally on a variety of topics on IT law and other issues.
Dr Sebo Tladi peer reviews various IT law/cyberlaw articles for the SA Mercantile Law Journal and Journal of Law Society and Technology. She is also a member of the following professional working associations: The South African Association of Intellectual Property Law and Information Technology Teachers and Researchers; and Southern African Law Teachers Association. Dr Sebo Tladi is also passionate about mentoring young researchers and students alike.
